Pekka Paikkari (1960) has worked in Arabia since 1983. During the years he has done both mass production products and unique art works. Paikkari is very interested in large public works. CATARACTA, to name one, is approximately 350 square meters large public work of art. It is designed for an apartment house company, Loppukiri in Arabianranta.
”The basis of my art is the presence of a human being. As an instrument of expression clay is ever changing and carries in itself the history of time. I build an endless story through my works. The ultime shape of the art work is defined by the dialoque between the viewer and the work. This takes place both public works and installations made out of many pieces. ”
Pekka Paikkari has had several private exhibitions and took part in many joint exhibitions. He received the III-prize on Art competition of Helsinki House of justice in 1989 and the International Biennal of Ceramics, Faenza, Italy, (Fondatzione Cassa di Risparmio di Ravenna) in 1993.
